The route to the border crossing runs through the magnificent Uspallata Valley, past the Penitentes ski resort, the Puente del Inca – a natural formation carved into the mountain by the Las Cuevas River – where hot springs rise to the surface, and past the entrance to Aconcagua Provincial Park. Weather permitting, it is possible to drive to the colossal statue of Christ the Redeemer, symbolizing the union the two nations, Chile and Argentina. The tour can be made by starting out southward from Mendoza via the Potrerillos dam, or heading north, an itinerary that includes the winding Villavicencio highway and reserve. Any way chosen is an unforgettable path along the mountains.
